Kashmir — The Crown Jewel of India
Srinagar’s houseboats · Gulmarg’s summer snow · Pahalgam’s meadows | Altitude: 1,585 – 2,650 m

🌡 May–June Temperature: 15 °C – 25 °C in Srinagar | 10 °C – 20 °C in Gulmarg
No list of tourist places in India is complete without Kashmir — often called “Paradise on Earth.” When the plains of India bake at 45 °C, Srinagar floats serenely at 1,585 metres with clear skies, fragrant chinar trees and the legendary Dal Lake shimmering in every shade of blue. For families, couples and solo travellers seeking to beat the heat in 2026, Kashmir is the number-one destination.
🏠 Dal Lake & Houseboat Stays
Staying on a houseboat is THE quintessential Kashmir experience. Dal Lake covers 18 sq km, surrounded by Zabarwan Mountains and dotted with centuries-old wooden houseboats — floating palaces decorated with intricately carved walnut wood, Persian rugs and floral fabrics. Wake up to the sound of a shikara boat gliding past your window carrying fresh lotus flowers, vegetables and steaming Kashmiri Kahwa. Houseboat categories range from Heritage Star (₹2,500–₹4,000/night) to Deluxe and Five-Star (₹8,000–₹20,000/night). Book 4–6 weeks ahead during May–June as the best boats fill up fast.

⛷ Gulmarg — The Meadow of Flowers (2,650 m)
Gulmarg sits 51 km from Srinagar. In summer, it transforms from ski resort into a wildflower paradise — carpets of daisies, daffodils, buttercups and forget-me-nots stretch across gentle slopes. The Gulmarg Gondola (Phase 1 to Kongdori at ~3,000 m) is an absolute must — panoramic views of Nanga Parbat and the Himalayan arc. Temperatures hover between 10–20 °C even on hot days, making it the perfect spot to beat the heat. Activities: horse riding, golf at the world’s highest golf course (2,650 m), nature walks, ATV rides and photography in the wildflower meadows.
🦌 Pahalgam & Betaab Valley
95 km from Srinagar, Pahalgam (“Shepherd’s Village”) sits where the Lidder River tumbles through pine-covered mountains. Betaab Valley (named after the 1983 Bollywood film) is a 15-km drive away — emerald meadows, a crystal river and snow-capped peaks form a backdrop that looks almost unreal. Entry ₹50/person. Also visit Aru Valley (12 km from Pahalgam) for easy treks and quiet mountain air.
